Nenadi Usman Faction Backs Obi in 2027 Coalition Talks
The Labour Party’s National Caretaker Committee, led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has thrown its weight behind Peter Obi’s involvement in the ongoing coalition discussions aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by Senator Usman’s media aide, Ken Asogwa, the faction expressed strong support for the coalition, describing it as a people-driven initiative vital for rescuing Nigeria from poor governance. It reaffirmed that Obi retains the right to contest the 2027 presidency under the Labour Party’s banner, should the coalition talks fail.
Senator Usman criticized the opposition to Obi’s participation, particularly from suspended party members loyal to Julius Abure. She accused them of anti-party activities and insisted they lacked the moral authority to oppose a national rescue mission.
“Obi’s focus has always been on building a coalition to tackle hunger, insecurity, and bad governance – goals that reflect the true spirit of the Labour Party,” the statement said.
Usman further slammed Abure’s group for referencing what she called an “illegal and self-organized” 2024 national convention, which she noted had already been declared void by the Supreme Court.
The statement urged Nigerians to ignore pronouncements from individuals claiming party leadership outside the caretaker committee. It advised the public to trust only official communications from the Nenadi Usman-led leadership.
