Governor Alia Accuses National Assembly Members of Sponsoring Attacks

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has made a shocking revelation, alleging that some serving members of Nigeria’s National Assembly are behind the persistent attacks on communities within the state.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Governor Alia described the situation as “extremely unacceptable,” stressing that the masterminds are not only instigating the violence but also supporting the attackers.

According to him, these unnamed politicians are providing shelter, resources, and logistics to the assailants—believed to be hiding in the forests.

“It is very, very unsettling,” Alia said. “Top politicians who are currently serving in the National Assembly and based in Abuja are the architects and arrowheads—harbouring, feeding, and equipping these people. This cannot be tolerated.”

He disclosed that an interim report from a judicial panel he instituted has indicted several prominent individuals, though he withheld specific names. He promised to act decisively once the final report is submitted next week.

“We are expecting the full report between Tuesday and Wednesday. Once I have it, I will take action,” the governor added.

His comments come in the wake of renewed violence, with multiple fatalities and injuries reported after suspected armed herdsmen struck along the Makurdi–Naka road on Friday. That route has reportedly remained under the control of armed militia groups for weeks, despite military assurances of intervention.

Governor Alia emphasized his commitment to protecting ordinary citizens and holding those responsible accountable, warning that political self-interest should never override public safety.
