Oborevwori, Okowa, Others Dump PDP for APC
In a major political realignment, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa have officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). The high-profile defection, which took place on Monday, has sent ripples through the political landscape of Delta State and beyond.
The move was confirmed during a meeting with top APC stakeholders in Asaba, where both Oborevwori and Okowa were received by party leaders and supporters. Sources say the defection was the result of months of behind-the-scenes consultations and negotiations.
Also joining the APC were several commissioners, members of the Delta State House of Assembly, and prominent PDP chieftains across the state.
While addressing the gathering, Governor Oborevwori cited a need for “greater alignment with the Federal Government for the progress of Delta State” as part of his reasons for switching parties. Former Governor Okowa, who served as Vice Presidential candidate for the PDP in the 2023 general elections, echoed similar sentiments, stressing the importance of “unity and national development over party lines.”
The APC has described the defection as a major boost to its strength in the South-South region, and party leaders say they are confident this development will usher in a new era of cooperation and growth for the people of Delta State.
