Lagos PDP Hit by Mass Defection as Top Members Join APC

In a major shake-up within the opposition ranks, several prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State have formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing unresolved leadership crises and persistent internal disunity.

According to First TV Online, the group of defectors includes high-ranking PDP executives, former electoral candidates, and key grassroots mobilizers, all of whom expressed frustration over what they described as the PDP’s lack of direction and failure to uphold its founding principles.

Leading the mass defection was the Lagos State PDP Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, who openly declared that the party had become unstable and politically irrelevant.

“The PDP in Lagos has lost its focus. The internal divisions are endless, and the leadership has failed to unite the party or offer any meaningful political roadmap,” Amode said, as captured by First TV Online during the announcement ceremony.

Among the notable figures who left the PDP for the APC are:

  • Alhaja Safurat Abdulkareem – Former Deputy Governorship Candidate, Lagos

  • Chief Ola Apena – Former Deputy Chairman, PDP Lagos

  • Prince Rufus Ademola Adeniyi – Former Assistant State Organizing Secretary (Lagos West)

  • Jerry Afemikhe (Olori Odo) – Former PDP House of Representatives Candidate, Surulere Constituency 1

  • Pastor Gbenga Ogunleye – Former Spokesman to the 2023 Lagos PDP Governorship Candidate

The list also includes multiple 2023 PDP Lagos State House of Assembly candidates:

  • Hon. Keshinro Abiodun – Epe State Constituency 1

  • Akeem Jinadu – Eti-Osa State Constituency 1

  • Hon. Ibrahim Balogun – Kosofe State Constituency 2

  • Taofeek Bolaji Obanikoro – Lagos Island State Constituency 1

  • Tunde Pratt – Lagos Mainland State Constituency 2

  • Saheed Aregbesola – Oshodi-Isolo State Constituency 2

  • Sulaimon A. Thompson – Surulere State Constituency 1

  • Taofeek O. Kuye – Ajeromi-Ifelodun State Constituency 1

  • Adeyemi Kazeem – Former PDP Chairman, Ojo Local Government

All the defectors declared their full commitment to working with the APC to ensure stronger governance and political stability in Lagos State.

First TV Online gathered that this development could significantly weaken the PDP’s operational base in Lagos ahead of the 2027 general elections, giving the APC an even firmer grip on the state’s political structure.
