Fuel Subsidy Removal: Tinubu Has Made Every Month a Bazaar for Governors – Terver Akase

Terver Akase, former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex‑Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, has described the current financial situation of Nigerian state governors as the most favorable in the country’s history, thanks to the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Akase, a seasoned journalist, political communicator, and former Benue PDP governorship aspirant, commented on the impact of the fuel subsidy removal policy. He emphasized that this policy has triggered a dramatic increase in federal revenue allocations to state and local governments, calling it:

> “a bazaar of sort” for governors—where “States and local governments are now receiving 400% increased allocations from the federation’s account. It is Christmas and Sallah for them every month.”

His vivid comparison underlines how the policy has transformed monthly allocations into a festive-like financial bonanza for State Governors.

Akase’s remarks highlight the enormity of the fiscal boost—over 400% increase in monthly allocations—and the opportunity it presents for grassroots development. He also issued an implicit call for transparency and accountability in public fund management.
