ADC Leads Coalition in Abia, Vows to Challenge APC in 2027
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its coalition allies have launched what they described as a major political movement in Abia State, setting the stage for a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the summit held in Umuahia on Friday, the ADC’s Abia State Chairman, Don Norman Obinna, announced that the coalition had unanimously adopted the ADC as its official political platform. He said this was a strategic step aimed at correcting years of failed leadership under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“This coalition is not just about political alliances—it’s a response to worsening economic hardship, skyrocketing unemployment, and the continuous disenfranchisement of citizens under the APC-led government,” Obinna said. “We are here to restore hope, end hunger, and return Nigeria to the path of prosperity.”
He further emphasized the need for visionary leadership in Abia and across the nation, grounded in principles of justice, accountability, and transparency. “Since 1999, our goal in Abia has been to elect men of integrity who will rebuild Nigeria on the foundations of equity and fairness,” he added.
The keynote speaker, Professor Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna, a respected political analyst and reform advocate, stressed the importance of active citizen engagement and stakeholder participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
He criticized the continued marginalization of the South East and advocated for rotational leadership, issue-based politics, and equitable representation. “We must resist the temptation of selling our votes for material things or empty promises. The future lies in citizen-led accountability,” Afamefuna declared.
Reverend Blessed Amalambu, a former ADC House of Assembly candidate, urged the coalition to thoroughly vet political aspirants to prevent corrupt individuals from hijacking their mission. “We must not allow the same old forces of corruption to infiltrate this movement,” he warned.
The summit marks a bold step in what the ADC and its allies believe will be a people-driven revolution aimed at reclaiming Nigeria’s democratic values and delivering good governance.
