University of Mkar Hosts Urgent Round Table on Insecurity
As insecurity continues to escalate across Benue State and other parts of Nigeria, the University of Mkar has announced a high-level Round Table discussion set for Thursday, June 5, aimed at dissecting the roots of the crisis and charting a way forward.
Organizers and concerned stakeholders insist that the current wave of violence is “not random” but part of a carefully orchestrated campaign that goes far beyond the typical narrative of herders and farmers clashing over water and pasture.
“Insecurity is now an industry benefiting all stakeholders,” a statement issued ahead of the event reads. “While the people suffer, politicians and security agencies continue with business as usual. This is an existential challenge and we must understand it to take meaningful steps to save ourselves.”
According to the University, the round table will bring together academics, civil society leaders, security experts, and community stakeholders to discuss the broader implications of the crisis. The statement warns that the attacks are not only about resources but about land, power, and long-term domination.
“There is a war chest funding this violence, capable of turning even the best among us into useful idiots,” the statement continues. “This round table is a call for critical thinking, collective awareness, and unified action.”
Details of the Round Table: Venue: University of Mkar, Mkar Chapel
Date: Thursday, June 5, 2025
Time: 10am
All concerned citizens, researchers, and stakeholders are invited to attend.
