2027: I Won’t Step Down for Atiku – Adebayo Declares

Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has stated unequivocally that he will not step down for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television Wednesday night, Adebayo addressed recent speculations suggesting that Atiku may be eyeing the SDP as a possible platform to contest the 2027 presidential election.

He dismissed any notion of being a placeholder or making way for Atiku, insisting that the SDP is not available to be “used” by any politician.

“I will not step down for Atiku Abubakar, and to be fair, he hasn’t asked anyone to step down for him,” Adebayo said.

“Neither I nor Atiku can ‘use’ the SDP. The party belongs to the Nigerian people. Anyone who aligns with the party’s ideology is welcome to join, but we are not available to be used.”

This comes amid reports that top opposition figures are working to form a coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Key names in the alliance include Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
